Improving Lives through Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Claudia’s background and journey are truly inspiring. Originally from Costa Rica, she has called Arkansas home for the past 12 years. With a passion for supporting neurodiverse and underrepresented entrepreneurs, Claudia brings a wealth of experience, including time spent in banking and as the founder of her own translation business.

She transitioned into the nonprofit sector with a clear vision to make a meaningful impact on the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

The Mission of Startup Junkies

Startup Junkies started as a consulting firm but has grown into a nonprofit with a mission to provide entrepreneurs with access to the essential resources they need to thrive. These resources include mentorship, workshops, and, perhaps most importantly, access to capital. Claudia explained that their approach is holistic, offering support to entrepreneurs at every stage of their journey—from those with a fresh idea to those running established businesses.

One of the standout aspects of Startup Junkies is their focus on inclusivity. They work intentionally to serve historically underserved communities, such as Latinos, Black, Asian, veterans, single parents, and the neurodiverse. They have implemented a range of initiatives to make resources and funding more accessible, including Kiva micro-loans and a thrift store that funds business grants.

Claudia’s commitment to underserved communities is evident in every aspect of her work. She shared how Startup Junkies’ efforts go beyond just providing financial resources; they’re also focused on building supportive communities.

This allows entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds to access the tools, mentorship, and networks they need to succeed.

One of the key initiatives is their use of Kiva microloans, which provide accessible funding to entrepreneurs who might not qualify for traditional financing.

Additionally, their thrift store contributes to business grants, allowing Startup Junkies to reinvest back into the entrepreneurial ecosystem, furthering the cycle of empowerment.

Advice for Entrepreneurs

First and foremost, she emphasizes the importance of giving yourself and others grace. Entrepreneurship can be a challenging and sometimes isolating journey, but having the confidence to show up, make your voice heard, and take up space is key to success.

Building a supportive community is another vital piece of the puzzle. Claudia stressed how important it is to surround yourself with people who believe in your vision, providing not just advice but encouragement as well.

For those who may feel discouraged or uncertain, the message is clear: keep going and lean into your support system.

Claudia Scott’s work with Startup Junkies is a testament to the power of inclusive entrepreneurship. By providing resources, mentorship, and access to capital, Startup Junkies is helping create opportunities for underrepresented entrepreneurs.

Their mission of democratizing access to entrepreneurship is one that will continue to have a positive impact on the business world, making it a more diverse and equitable space for all.
