What Is Latinx Founders?

Updated: May 24, 2023

In this episode I welcome Marcelino Alvarez, founder of Photon Marine, which is developing high-powered electric outboard motors for commercial boats.

Photon Marine was also a recent participant of Pitch Latinx, an accelerator aimed at Latinx founders.

What is Latinx Founders, why is it important, and why should an entrepreneur care?

Latinx Founders was cofounded by Portland entrepreneurs Juan Barraza, Edgar Navas, and myself, and we held our first event since the pandemic on October 5, 2022 at Redd on Salmon in SE Portland, showcasing Latinx entrepreneurs from all different industries including tech, food, consumer goods, footwear, as well as the marine industry and Photon Marine.

The Latinx accelerator program will begin accepting applications for our first cohort at the start of 2023, and our goal is to help over 100 founders get to $1 million in recurring revenue in five years. It is a lofty goal, and that’s why this is important.

I am proud to say we are on our way with the filing of our formal nonprofit Latinx Founders with entrepreneurial organization Built Oregon as our fiscal sponsor. Our aim is to support our Latinx entrepreneurs and innovators and help them achieve their respective missions, as it will help propel Oregon’s economy, and that is why an entrepreneur should care.

Just as Photon Marine propels the boating industry into unchartered territories – becoming a pioneer without a frontier, Latinx Founders hopes to support the discovery of the unchartered.

Because after all – Latinx Founders is here to help the Oregon entrepreneur, in a globe of entrepreneurs.
